TIPS FOR CARING FOR FISHING LINE

05/23/2023

In fishing, one of the most important elements that we take care of the least is the line. The line, gut, thread or hair (whatever we want to call it) does not usually have all the care it requires. We usually fill the spools with thread and forget about it indefinitely fishing marathon fl .

However, if we think about it, it is the most important piece of our equipment: you can fish with a rod or a reel in poor condition, but since the line is not in good condition, fishing will never happen. So we should pay more attention to it.

Fishing line care requirements are very simple:

Beware of the sun

Do not leave the rods and reels in the sun because it could burn our equipment.

Wash with fresh water

Sweeten all the material well after the fishing day. Basically, it is about washing the reel and the line with fresh water, but without putting it under pressure, since pressurized water tends to damage the reels. The fresh water must be very abundant to undo the salt inside the reel.

Renew hilo each season

Change the spool thread every season. This way we will ensure the optimal state for our combats. This is something that as a general rule is only done in deep-sea fishing because if the material is not in perfect condition it cannot be fished.

I know that it can be somewhat expensive, but many times it is less than we think, because we find quality spools of thread on the market at very affordable prices. For example, 500 meters of 30-pound nylon for just 15 euros does not seem prohibitive to me for the profitability of the matter, if we think that a branded artificial cost us that or more.

Mount the thread rewinding backwards

Put the end of the spool at the beginning: once a year we can take out the thread and rewind the spool upside down. In this way we will fish the second season with new line, since regularly we never take more than 20% of our line off the spool and in this way it is almost as if we were using the line for the first time.
